Website for the Hands-On autonomous Robotics at IK 2016
Content
- We will guide you into the world of robotics.
- Starting with basic theory sessions, we will explore the capabilities of mobile robots.
- We will look into locomotion, sensors and control algorithms.
- The first session will give an introduction into the theoretical basis and explain the basics of the ROS robot control software.
- The rest of the practical course will be held as a hands-on robotics lab.
- You will form teams of three to four people (ideally a combination of different disciplines) to enable a robot to fulfill a task you choose in the first session.
- We will provide a number of robots and computers to transform IK into a big robotic lab.
Objectives
- Learn the basics of how robots work.
- Learn how to program robots.
- Learn how to work in an interdisciplinary group.
- Learn how hard it can be to make robots do seemingly simple things.
Literature
- ROS Wiki
- If you want to use your own computer, you need to install Ubuntu and the ROS release Jade
- In case you install ROS on your own computer beforehand, you could already have a look at the official tutorials
Speaker
Jochen Sprickerhof
Jochen Sprickerhof is a long-time IK participant.
He studied applied system science at the Osnabrück University and wrote his diploma thesis about loop closing in 3D robotic mapping.
As a member of the knowledge-based systems research group of Prof. Hertzberg at the Osnabrück University he works on 3D robotic mapping (SLAM), point cloud processing and robot control architectures.
Ansgar Schmidt
Passionated hacker and maker in the field of hardware and software.
Specialized on robotics and home automatisation with IoT technology.
Worked for IBM Research for Virtual Worlds and future of business communication.
Currently occupied as IBM Bluemix evangelist in Berlin.
Michael Görner
Michael Görner studied Informatics and Cognitive Science at the University of Potsdam and Osnabrück, respectively.
Based on this background, his main fields of research are applied symbolic reasoning as well as autonomous robotics and robot control architectures.
Currently he is a PhD-student under Prof. Hertzberg at Osnabück University and a member of the knowledge-based systems research group as well.
